How did you get your first break into the fashion industry?
I got my break in the fashion industry when I was a Fit Model for AllSaints. I became friends with the designers there and one of them - my friend and designer Eudon Choi - let me help out with the models at his show at London fashion week. When I was trying to get some pictures and portfolio together he also let me borrow his collection to shoot on the model so my pictures looked really good as his clothes are amazing!
Where do you start when styling a client?
I like to get to know their interests such as what music, films and books they like as well as their influences. After that I can get an idea of what would suit them and what look to go for. I always want people to feel comfortable!
What are your favourite go-to staple items from your own wardrobe?
My favourite staples are my vintage Levis. I’ve tons of pairs and everywhere that I travel I hunt every vintage shop for the perfect pair - i’ve about 10 pairs now!
You have danced for Cher, Steps and so many other amazing artists! What were the best memories from your career in dance?
One of my best memories was doing the brit awards for Cher for sure. She was so lovely and such a legend! Also, doing the MTV awards in Barcelona for Whitney Houston - that was pretty surreal!
How has it been as a stylist through-out the pandemic?
It’s been ok! I’ve started to do costume for film and TV - i’ve currently been working on the new Netflix series of Vikings and the Amazon Prime show Modern Love.
Finally, what advice would you give to anyone who would love to make their way into the industry?
I would say be an assistant to a stylist you admire - we are always looking for eager assistants. Learn from them, work hard and learn to have thick skin as there are a lot of egos in this industry - and never give up!! you can do anything you put your mind to.
It was an absolute pleasure talking to Fiona and I hope that she has inspired you as much as she inspires me on a daily basis! An absolute gem and unbelievably talented woman!
So, I wanted to spice up this weeks Girl Boss Guide and after receiving some gorgeous goodies from LOLA I just had to do some 80's glam! Check it OUT -
I hope you have enjoyed this lil' read and have a gorgeous weekend, you
Love - R xox
